CD Christmas Cards 2016

Hi everyone!

It’s that time of year again! CD Christmas Cards are BACK for another year of holiday cheer!

The usual info:

This is a longstanding tradition (over 10 years!) and it’s always a lot of fun! It’s nice to get mail that’s not a bill (for those of us who have them), and everyone can use a little cheering up before build season.

The details:

A book of stamps is currently: $9.40 USD (down 40c from last year!)

Since it (apparently) takes three first-class stamps to mail to Canada, Canadians please make sure to sign up for **3 spots. **

The limit this year is, as always, 40 sign-ups. so this way no one is spending more than $20 in stamps (which is two books of stamps, unless you’re Canadian – if all sign-ups are to America, your cost will be greater).

Spread the word! Tell your friends, tell your enemies, tell your robot. It’s a lot of fun when a lot of people sign up! Even if you don’t celebrate Christmas, you are welcome to participate! Cards of all kinds are welcome.

The deadline for sign-ups is going to be 11:59PM on Friday, December 16, 2016. This means that you must PM me your address before that time. I will send out a reminder PM on 12/14 if you have signed up but have not sent me your address, but it will make both of our lives easier if you just send it as soon as you sign up. I’ll send out the address list on the 17th, which means cards will likely be arriving a bit after Christmas (running a little late this year, but not as bad as last year!).

And yes, this means the other folks involved will get a physical address (via PM), so check with the parents as applicable.

Cards will be arriving between now and probably just into the new year, so if you have multiple addresses (i.e. college kids), keep that in mind when sending me your address! If this applies to you, please also include instructions if you want cards sent to a different address after a certain date.

Obviously we can’t track you down and force you to send cards–but try to avoid being a spoilsport. Don’t forget to send them, and don’t put them off until the last minute!

So, if you’re in for this year, add your name to the list and PM me your address. Hope to see your name in my mailbox soon!

Note: If anyone plans on sending out objects that don’t sit flat in an envelope this year, such as festivus poles (coughBillfredcough) or other non-standard objects, make sure that the packaging will withstand the mailing process.

How many stamps to Israel?

ircalc.usps.com says $2.13 USD for a flat envelope … so 5 stamps?

It looks like a rigid item inside (keychain, etc) would raise that to $2.43, or 6 stamps.

Note: prices calculated for a 2oz letter - the maximum weight that 3 stamps can send to Canada

I’ll leave 5 spots total for Tal Esh. Anyone who sends more than a card should check for applicable rates.

Thanks for organizing this again Kara!

Lots of new names this year, and I’m really excited to have our first (that I know of) Israeli participant! Thank you Kyle for figuring that postage out!

A few people have PM’d me asking exactly what you’d be getting into with this exchange. In brief, by signing up, the following will happen to you:

  • You will need to send X amount of cards via the postal service of your country, where “X” is the number of participants

  • You will receive approximately* X amount of cards in return at the physical address you provide!

That’s it! Pretty simple. There’s still a few days left to sign up if you want to join in on the fun!

*I say “approximately” beacuse there’s always inevitably a few cards that get lost in the mail, or someone doesn’t actually send their cards (don’t be that person!)

^ And certain people have been known to send souvenirs other than just flat cards… so be prepared to receive all kinds of fun approximately-flat goodies!

We’re excited to do this again. Had a blast with it last year.

no festivus poles.

Would a Fusilli Jerry be acceptable?
