CD47-Bot

I know you all love CD47-Bot so much, but he’s getting old and needs to take a break. So, starting immediately he will only be working part time for us. He will be here to post the threads congratulating the UFH, but he is done with the White Papers and Image Gallery discussion threads. Instead, these threads will be created automatically by the people who uploaded the picture or paper. Let me know if you run into any problems.

**CD-Swap Update**: I'm at work now, using the high-speed connection to upload the 2.6GB data file with all of the US Zip Code information. Once it's uploaded and imported, the zipcode search should be ready to go. I won't have much time to work on it tonight, so I'm estimating tomorrow afternoon. Have you put your extra parts, or part requests up yet? Go for it-- it's easy. :)

**CD-Swap Update #2: **(11/29 9:45am) The file I uploaded was corrupted, so I am reuploading it. Distance-based searching should be ready by [strike]Wednesday or Thursday[/strike].

CD-Swap Update #3: (12/03 12:53am) It will be a while before I have time to get the distance-based searching working. Maybe Sunday. Maybe Christmas.

Once again Brandon, thanks for all the work you put into CD and how great you have made this FIRST community.

We will miss Cd47-Bot… :frowning:

and Thanks Brandon…

Cd47-Bot is the only person who doesnt take a vacation…about time his work load is relieved…

The best part is that he has a higher reputation than many of the people here, i was suprised when i surpassed him.

Aww 1/2 RIP CD47-Bot. We’ll miss ya part-time. =)
After all, it is about time, I agree with you, Ryan.

Not anymore. I clear those out once a month, or so. Everybody who reps him and the archiver are just wasting points.

I wander if giving points to Brandon is wasting points, i bet he has so many it wouldnt matter if i did or not :stuck_out_tongue:

Well, giving rep points to someone who is “beyond repute” still increases the number of rep points they can give or take away from people, so it’s not entirely useless, I suppose.

ya i know my post was a joke, was not met to be taken serious

CD-47bot deserves a vacation. I know we all will have this question, where’s it going? Florida maybe? Bahamas?

Well if he wants to come to orlando he can stay with me, i can him free tickets to universal since i work there

He is going to Disneyworld. End of Story. There is no better place for a long-hailed FIRST hero than EPCOT.

Couldn’t agree more. (there, that should make my sponsors happy. )

How does the distance-based searching work that makes it so difficult to set up properly?

I would have thought that a bunch of X-Y coords (GPS, even) for the zips and then some Pythagorean math would be all you need.

How are you doing it?

The process isn’t difficult – finding the time to do so is.

I downloaded a database of all US zipcodes, and their Latitude/Longitudes. Then, calculated the distance between every combination (using formulas in the zipdy code)

The data isn’t ready to go yet, and with work as hectic as it is (12+ hour days, 6+ days a week, till late December) I won’t be able to get it working. I’m guessing around Christmas you will be able to search by zipcode.

I may end up using that data for other stuff too, who knows. It sure did take a long time to calculate and upload (7GB CSV file for distances < 500miles)
