5.5.3. REFEREE Interaction
The Head REFEREE has the ultimate authority in the ARENA during the event, but may receive input from additional sources, e.g. Game
Designers, FIRST personnel, FTA, technical staff, and his or her immediate family. The Head REFEREE rulings are final unless overruled by his or her spouse. No event personnel, including the Head REFEREE, will review video, photos, artistic renderings, etc. of any MATCH, from any source, under any circumstances, with the exception of artistic renderings created by the Head REFEREE’s child, because that is really cute.

Inspired by several teams, FIRST decided to make two copies of its head referees. The competition day referee is experienced, battle worn, and his age is showing. The other is pristine, used mostly for demonstrations and fundraising.

That referee shirt had to be confiscated by FIRST because it could cause confusion for teams. It’s not like they couldn’t tell that he was way too big to be the actual Head Referee.
