Censor Question

So, I notice the censor changed from the black boxes to just not letting you post words it blocks.

However, it doesn’t cover every word that used to be covered.

While I’m assuming these “lighter” swear words are still looked down upon in excessive usage, are we allowing light swearing now?

And, if not, would it be possible to do some sort of hybrid system, where the old words still become black boxes but the system still prevents you from posting the worse ones?

After all, it’s less work on the moderators if the filter is in line with our expectations for forum usage. That way it’s easy to tell when people were bypassing it intentionally, and helps keep conversation cleaner.

It definitely still shows boxes in some cases, because I’ve seen them.

Some are blocked automatically and won’t let you post until they’re fixed, others are sent to moderators for review.

Thanks moderators !

Wow that sounds like a lot of extra work

But hey, if you’re up to it, I guess that works!

Please never. I would lose a lot of respect in this community.

My only complaint with the swearing filter is about the singular noun form of the word “crappy” which doesn’t seem to be worth censoring to me. I don’t feel all that strongly about it, but I’d happily see the ban lifted in that instance.

I can understand that but if comes at the cost of having to look at other filth count me out.

Let’s be more on CD. Let’s truly live up to the lofty standards of Gracious Professionalism.

Myself, I wouldn’t mind being able to use stronger language occasionally. That being said, the only word I particularly care about being unbanned is, as @BordomBeThyName said,

What good does it do you?

What harm does it do to me?

Can I get a list of the ones sent to mods please?

Wow. I didn’t expect this. I hope I didn’t hurt anyone.

Alright, people. We get it.

I am saying this as someone who’s compared one person to a donkey (in the stronger sense) in my life–and that was someone caught on security footage throwing a cue ball through my living room window. I think you’ll give me a pass on that one.

It is important to have an understanding of how to write in a professional manner. It is also important to understand we have a lot of people who are either still developing their professional writing abilities, or may come to English from another language and are still fine-tuning their aim.

I’ve seen the list of words that triggers a review, and it’s a plenty thorough list. It’s going to be alright. Keep yourself on the right track, and if someone else goes overboard we can handle it (and, as needed, update the list).

Ok. I didn’t mean to attack anyone’s personal use of language. That is their own businesses. On Chiefdelphi, we have the community guidelines and GP, compounded by the fact that everything you say online is for everyone to see. I the community cant agree on this then l will have to take my leave of it. Thanks so very very much for letting me be a part of it while l could!

Small disclaimer: I am not the one flagging you.

To me, you are being too self-righteous. Yes, we are on Chief Delphi, a public internet forum, and yes, we should strive to be professional. Having said that, being professional != never using swear/filthy words. They can be used for emphasis, or great excitement (remember TSIMFD? look it up of you don’t.) Similarly, where does one draw the line on “offensive” words? Obviously we won’t be dropping f-bombs on this forum, but is ‘the singular noun form of the word “crappy”’ offensive? To whom? You seem to be seeing yourself as the sole moral arbiter on this forum, and it is rubbing some people the wrong way.

Personally. I support CDs censorship.

I’m not arguing against the censorship of the forum, I believe it helps keep trolls at bay and prevents particularly heated threads from going even further.
