Chairman's advice for beginners

We want to do Chairman’s this year but our current students and mentors are all pretty new, so we aren’t sure where to start. Any advice?

thecompassalliance.org is a great place to start for the basic information about awards, chairmans, outreach in general, etc.

I recommend reading the essays of the previous winners as well.

It’s well worth submitting and presenting just for the experience! It’s great preparation for college and job interviews and great for learning how to organize and present data on what you did. Depending on your judging panel you may or may not get useful feedback on where you can improve. A mentor is allowed to go into the room to observe when the actual presentation is made so they can give feedback later (we’ve never used this option ourselves - we let the kids decide if they want an observer or not - but it’s a good option).
