Challenged Definition

What is everyone’s take on the CHALLENGED Rule, I am having a hard time deciding what they actually mean…

A ROBOT has CHALLENGED the TOWER if, at the conclusion of the MATCH, the ROBOT is fully supported by the TOWER, but hasn’t met the criteria for SCALING the TOWER.

Support is transitive through other objects. For example, if a BOULDER
is fully supported by the BATTER, and a ROBOT is supported only by the BATTER and the BOULDER, the ROBOT is still considered fully supported by the TOWER.

Does this mean we need to be hanging from the RUNG and off the BATTER but you are not considered SCALED because you are not off the ground enough?

Thanks

The batter (the set of ramps underneath the tower) is considered part of the tower. You just need to be sitting on them to get the challenge points.

From 2.2.3.1:

Each CASTLE has a TOWER between PLAYER STATIONS two (2) and three (3). Each TOWER has
three faces with RUNGS, five GOALS, a BATTER, and a CORRAL.

By challenge, that means that you are either on the sloped part of the tower (and not touching the arena floor) or you are hanging on the rung but your bumpers don’t pass the low goal. You do not need to be hanging from the rung to challenge a tower, but you cannot also be touching the arena floor for it to count (so you have to be completely supported by the tower/batter).
