I would like to start a thread asking for things people like about the new Championship Event qualification. For those of you who haven’t paid attention about the new rules, that topic was started in here: http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=22322
I would like to have a more focused discussion about it, and since Andy Baker started a Constructive Criticism thread, I would like to start one that’s about the Pro’s.
What part of the new rules do you like, and want to make sure FIRST keeps using in the future? Any thoughts?
Good point, Ken. I like focusing on the positive stuff also.
Automatic entry for past Championship Chairman’s Award-winning teams is good.
Automatic entry for previous year Championship winners is good.
Automatic entry for current year…
… Regional Champions
… Regional Chairman’s Award winners
… Engineering Inspiration Award winners
… Rookie All-Star winners
… is good.
Allowing teams to use merit points from last year is a good thing also, even though 2004 will be the last year to use this type of qualification.
In addition to what Andy said, I also like the tier system idea. It is better than the even/odd system because it does not coerce a team to go in their year (even or odd). With the tier system, if a team decides not to go, they just improve their chances of going the next year and so on - this is good!
I really like the idea that the veteran teams don’t get much special treatment now. They are viewed less like wonders because of previous years and have to work just as hard as the rookies now if they want to win
