Championship Thanks from Team Xbot

I’ll try to keep this a bit shorter than my thanks from the Microsoft Seattle Regional.

Foremost, my entire team wants to offer its gratitude to teams 118 and 343 for being a part of our alliance. We are truly honored and humbled to have had a chance to play so well with two of FIRST’s legendary teams. We, too, wish we could have played a little bit longer. Archimedes Division Finalist is just a footnote in your storied histories, but it’s a tremendous accomplishment for my team and it would have never been possible without your help.

We took risks and made changes to strategy for nearly every match and that was probably the most fun I’ve had during FIRST matches in eleven years. 118, thank you for being willing to let us load up super cells into our machine and thank you for brilliantly telling our payload specialists to keep empty cells on the ground and out of sight. I don’t know if it worked to confuse our opponents, but it sure gave my team members in the stands a moment of pause. 343, you came through at every opportunity and were easily our alliance’s scoring leader. Switching to loading from the payload specialist also paid off tremendously and was a great idea.

While I appreciate that you each tried to defer to me to decide our strategy, I am indebted to each of you for everything you did to make our alliance strong. We chose your teams because you had solid, amazing robots – but we knew, too, that we were getting a lot of experience on the side. My team has never competed at the level we’re at this year and having your experience and knowledge to draw from was as valuable as having your awesome robots on the field with us.

I want to congratulate teams 222, 1218 and 2753 for putting together an amazing alliance of unrelenting scorers. Y’all made sure that there was nowhere we could go for refuge and made the finals the most challenging matches we’ve played all season, hands down.

Honorable mention to 1503, 1538, 1649 and 176 for being very, very scary. Your alliance simply crushed us in that first semi-final and forced us to completely reevaluate our strategy. It’s a shame that 1649 had troubles in the second match and, as was our experience in Seattle, I think if we’d gone on for a few more matches, it’d have been a dead heat.

The best part of my season, however, was not winning the Microsoft Seattle Regional or seeding 6th at the Championship Event or working so closely with FIRST legends or even being finalists in our division. It happened a few hours after our fairy tale had ended when one of my team’s other mentors told me about the outpouring of support for our team and our alliance from our friends. Folks at home were watching the webcast and cheering out loud, our friends were commenting to Facebook in a frenzy, and best of all, our teammates and friends from throughout the northwest all came to Archimedes to cheer us on. Thank you (!!!) to everyone on 360, 492, 1318, 1425, 1569 and 1983 for your support. I am not exactly to sort of person that cries a lot, but y’all got me close.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. The robots are fun to build and the competition is intense, but knowing that there are so many amazing people out there that are excited and happy to see our team and our kids succeed is the absolute best things that’s ever happened to me and our team at a FIRST event.

Sure was a lot of fun!
I really enjoyed the strategy sessions between matches. I’m not the coach, but I like to see what teams come up with to try to get the W.
Earlier, during the build season, we watched a video of 148. The first reaction is :ahh: awesome. The second thought was how do you beat a machine like that, a machine that can potentially score so many rocks. Another mentor on our team came up with the idea of not giving them any ammunition. If was neat to put that idea into practice against some awesome robots. By not allowing too many rocks on the field, we were able to get pretty far in Achemedes.
Again, thanks for picking us up and taking us on a wild ride.

Madison,
First of all it was so neat to see this happen on your birthday!!!

All of us from the Pac Northwest were pulling for you and for 1318 on opposite corners of the stadium!! It was great to see two PNW teams do so well!

Your run was great to watch and your team is great fun to be around.
I know we will never forget that when we came home after our first regional win 2 years ago…your team was at the airport late Saturday night to welcome us home. I will NEVER forget that and the friendship and grace you have always displayed.

Your team has always been an inspiration for us and for the entire PNW.

Congratulations on a GREAT season…

Maybe next year we will finally get a chance to play for a title together!!

You guys had an awesome alliance and kept our entire alliance running most of the match. 488, 118 and 343 put together some great machines and strategy to back em up. Best of luck to you all in the future!

Is it Madison’s birthday again? :stuck_out_tongue:

Congratulations to team 488! You did the Pacific Northwest proud! What a great way for the seniors to finish…to go out with such a monster accomplishment.

Well done!

Madison,
Your team had a great robot design this year and great drivers also. Your team was high on our scouting pick list if we (343) were to make it in the top eight.
To be honest we had several match’s that bothered us and match 34 against 488 and 61 was one of them. We have found out scouting to watch for robots and drivers that play the game with a purpose, repeatability and execution. Team 488 had that this year. Congratulations on a very fine year!

343 was honored that 488 picked us to play with you and 118 during eliminations. The first thing I said to our team in the stands is we have a very good chance to make it to the finals on Archimedes with this alliance. The reason was the diversity of the three robots was great. 488 with the hidden moon rocks who knows how many you would dump on an opponent. 118 with the turreted shooter/dumper running empty cells and dumping super cells and 343 with our SKWID AKA swerve/skid steer bot that had a fast power dumper.

I think it took the wind out of all our sails a little when we lost the first match in the finals by two points, I still can’t believe it.

I want to congratulate teams 222, 1218 and 2753 your robots and teams were awesome all weekend and no one can say you didn’t earn your way to Einstein. It was a scary alliance:eek: and I salute you.

for my tenth year in FIRST robotics, this championship was some of the most fun that i have ever had at a FIRST competition. i was so thrilled when we were picked by team 488 and 118 b/c i knew that we could get somewhere.

again, thanks to team 488 for picking us. and thanks to team 118 for giving me a totally new view on how to look at strategy. the strategy sessions allowed me to learn a lot. even though the game will be different, i will take all that i learned that saturday afternoon and take it into next season as well. those matches were so amazing, and i had so much fun getting to meet and play with 488 and 118 for the first time. it is always fun to get to know new, great teams. i still am shocked that we didn’t win that first match though…

i had an amazing time this past weekend, and i was thrilled that we got to the finals… although at that point, i wished for just a little bit more:)

1503, 1538, 1649, and 176. dont hang your head, b/c your alliance was awesome! each team had great robots, and i loved the epic matches that we had against each other.

222, 1218, and 2753. ya’ll were great. end of story.

thanks to everyone that made this weekend absolutley amazing! i know that i had a great time:D
