Championship Wait List

Our team didn’t put our name on the waiting list for the championship this year. I want to next year. But is it worth it? If you are a team that got into the Championship via the waiting list, please post it.

Why put your name on the wait list when you could sign up for open registration?

1714 made it off the wait list, but we double qualified anyway. Signing up early makes travel plans significantly easier.

1592 made it off the waitlist

We went via wait list last year just to get a taste of it, and I told our sponsor (Bausch & Lomb is the most awesome-est sponsor ever!) that I don’t want to do it again – either we qualify or we don’t go.

…just as well we won FLR this year, isn’t it?

If you do not attend this year than you can sign up for 2011 Championships on October 1st, same as your first regional. (most) Teams that attend this year will have to wait until later, when they sign up for their second regional.

We signed up about an hour after the second event registration opened (24 seats were still open but went in a flash) and we got off the wait list in March.

Next year’s an odd team number year.

Cass, even/odd disappeared a couple years back. It’s now:

My team has not gotten in off the waitlist yet… we’ve always qualified or open-registered.

Team 980 was on the wait list in 2008 and 2009.

In 2008, we came off the list a few days before the Los Angeles Regional. We accepted the invitation, but went on to win the LA Regional (thanks 330 and 1717) anyhow.

In 2009, we were on the wait list as well. We didn’t come off the list prior to our final regional (Las Vegas). We were eliminated in the QF, so we labeled our crate to return home. On the Tuesday following the Las Vegas event, we were invited from the wait list. I contacted Shepard, discovered the crate had not yet shipped from Las Vegas, and was able to have the robot shipped to Atlanta. It was a “snap decision” to go to Championship. In spite of short notice (less than two weeks), we were able to get reasonable airfare and hotel accommodations for the team. It was pretty frantic, but we had a good time in Atlanta.

This year, we elected to not go onto the wait list. We came up one victory short of qualifying in Los Angeles, so our team is not competing in Atlanta this year.

Next year, we plan to register for Championship in St. Louis early to avoid the wait list (if FIRST offers that option in 2011).

Team 832 is going to Championships via the wait list. We came off the list on 4/6 and accepted on 4/7. According to FIRST HQ there where 5 open spots at that time.

We originally registered to go in the fall, but did not have the funds available by the payment deadline, and where given the option of getting on the wait list.

Since we are a local Atlanta team travel is not an issue. Of course, next year it will be!

That is great news. The last time our team’s spoke, you guys were not going. And your robot is too good to be left out of a championship win shot, ecspecially since you are so close to the arena. Good Luck Oscar.

We have been lucky to go to all the championships since we bacame a team. We were put on the list this year like have been in the past. We got a call this year on the 19th of February to register. I guess they start taking teams off during build season. I think we were high up on the list because the principal was trying to register ASAP. Next year is a different story.
