I have noticed most users have “Registered User” after their name, but some have some custom text. How do we change what appears there? I looked through the settings but nothing was apparent. I assume it is really simple and I just missed it.

No way to change it currently. The ones we see are leftover from the last forum.

I worked on the ability to edit those custom titles this weekend; it’s close, but I’m still learning how to properly modify and extend Discourse so it’s taking longer than I had expected.

I see other people with custom messages and stuff, and i was wondering how they did that
“Registered User” is the default value of the Custom User Title field from the old forums. Users with a different value had changed it on the old site before ChiefDelphi was migrated to use Discourse. Currently, there’s no way to change the value under your Profile Settings, but Brandon is aware of the issue and has it on his to-do list.

Click on your avatar at the top right, then on the gear icon at the top right of the menu that comes up. This will put you into a mode where you can set your name, email address, password, profile picture.
If you then click on Profile tab at left, the first thing you will have in the main area is “About me”. This is where the custom messages are.
Probably a good idea to go through all the tabs and set things up as you’d like.
Well yeah I’ve set all that up and inspected all the menus thoroughly, I just can never find the place to change the message next to your name… “registered user” isn’t that fun.

I should have this ready to go in the next day or two. I got most of it working last night, just need to do some final testing.

Editing it seems to work great! I did notice, however, that clicking on it when viewing a post still shows the Registered tile.
It would be really cool if that could do a fuzzy search instead. So for mine (FRC 2177 Mentor, LRI, MN RPC), it could match any show users that also list 2177, or LRI, or any of the other terms. But I’m guessing that would be pretty difficult to implement

Noticed that this morning … it’s linking to, and showing, the primary user group card. I’ll remove that link at some point in the future (or make it pop your user card, like clicking your name/avatar).
