CHANTING at a comp!

What are some chants that your teams use that stand out compared to others. An example for me is how my team has a team dance.

Our team just started a new chant for when something goes particularly well for us. It’s pretty simple and doesn’t sound like much to most everyone else, since it’s just “Wee HAH” (emphasis on the second syllable.) But the team took it from something I (the lead mentor) tend to say when something is really exciting and they picked it up and decided it made a good cheer/chant.

Of course, the most famous team cheer/chant in NC District is the one from Team SPORK, which is, of course, “Stab, Stab, Scoop”. Still one of the best cheers in FIRST.

I do love the simple chants like chanting drive team names, chanting numbers, and hearing the Alliance chant. Some of the special ones I do know would start off with 1736s “Casserole, Casserole, Eat it up, Eat it up”. another one our team has had before was a wave with team 6420 at the Iowa Regional (picture below)

We also had a drive team chant at the Iowa Regional, team 6424 wanted to celebrate a full Missouri Alliance (6424 4329 1785) with their chant of “Mo Powa Baby” (picture below)

I cant think of too many other ones off the top of my head but those are pretty known.

We use our popular CHANT chant:

CHANT, CHANT, CHANT, CHANT

We also use our Team number chant which goes:

When I say team you say number
TEAM!
NUMBER!
TEAM!
NUMBER!
TEAM!
NUMBER!

Someone got a video of 88 going through a match?

It’s old-school as heck (I remember hearing it 15 years ago much the same as this year on Johnson), but bah gawd you know when they’re playing.

There’s always… Blue Alliance / Red Alliance, but everybody pretty much does that.

There’s also our team’s classic: “11 what? 89!”

As well as: “When I say We’re All, you say Gearheads. We’re All, Gearheads! We’re All, Gearheads! We’re All, Gearheads! Yeah!!!”

Explanation

Our team’s slogan is We’re All Gearheads

After matches we also do: "Way to go drive team, way to go!!! (Clap, Clap), Way to go drive team, way to go!!! (Clap, Clap)

I’d say the most notorious up here in Ontario is 772’s chant:

Seven Seven Who!? Seven Seven Two!!!

And of course there’s always the Waterloo event classic cheer:

Water Water Water!!! Loo Loo Loo!!!

I dunno about my team, but the freshmen on our bus have done 11’s “M-O-R-T! MORT! MORT! MORT!” chant a few times, so that one’s clearly effective.

I am always touched by how often other teams will chant for the “BREAD ah-LIE-ance”. Gracious.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard a team using a Gregorian chant. Anyone want to try?

Edit: It might be appropriate for Crescendo.

7541 has my favorite. During their rookie event in 2019, whenever they scored a game piece or climbed at the end of the match their entire team would just say their team name, “Maple River”. I hope they still do it.

in FTC we had a team with 6901 as the number, and so we would usually chant “SIXTY NINE… o one. SIXTY NINE… o one” lol

Coach: ARE YOU READY KIDS!

Kids: Aye aye captain.

Coach: I CAN’T HEAR YOU!

kids: AYE AYE CAPTAIN!

coach: WWEELLLL…WE BUILT A ROBOT IN UNDER 6 WEEKS

kids: 5484

Coach: NOW WHERE HERE AND READY TO COMPETE

Kids: 5484

All: 5484…5484…5…4…8…4

My team (3620 Average Joes) has a couple unique chants that I enjoy.

This first one starts after the teams have been announced before every match we are playing:
Cheer Captain: Are you ready Joes?
Team: Aye Aye Captain!
Cheer Captain: I can’t hear you!
Team: Aye Aye Captain!
Everyone: JOOOOOOOOOOES!
(It is really awesome when the production at an event plays the Sponge Bob theme before or after one of our matches!)

The second chant would typically be chanted during a match:
Cheer Captain: When I say average you say Joes!
Cheer Captain: Average!
Team: Joes!
Cheer Captain: Average!
Team: Joes!
Cheer Captain: 3-6-2-0
Team: Let’s go St. Joe!

I think we need to come up with some more creative ones, but ours is:

Coach: WE ARE
Team: STELLAR!

And we often chant for the green alliance, because why not?

I just got flashbacks to my team’s “rivals”, 3175 winning Macomb Community College this year.

My partner’s FLL team is The Ultra Bots, and their chant is “RUBBA TUB TUB”.
I’m forever jealous.

Here in the PNW 2557 is famous for their chant of
Can I get an Oh Yupp, and then the team yelling back Oh yup.
Other good ones from the area are 5937, who chants “OMG ITS NRG, the coolest kids in town” as a nod to team 948. 3636 did “reeses puffs reeses puffs eat em up eat em up” at DCMP despite their spirit lead’s effort to make them chant when i say 36 you say 36.
