The official season is over, it’s time for our CAD release!
To save time, we only fully populated 1 side when we had symmetrical mechanisms, so if something looks weird, please look at both sides. This is especially true on the lift.
This robot is divided into 3 major subsystems:
- The Drive
This subsystem includes our Bumpers, Electronics, and Intake. Fun Fact: We had initially dismissed an under-the-bumper intake, but revisited it when 95 posted in their build thread and we saw how much harder an over-the-bumper intake made integration for us. If you haven’t seen their build thread, you should check it out here. - The Lift
This Subsystem was inspired by 4414’s 2023 Lift. There are some key differences. We were unable to purchase the WCP inline bearing block for elevators so we designed for the clamping bearing blocks instead. This lead us down some interesting rabbit holes related to lift distance efficiency. The clamping bearing blocks don’t sit as close to the ends of the lift and thus limit the range of the carriage more than the inline versions. After some carful study we were able to move the pulley supports to inside the tubing allowing the carriage to move up through the full extent of the middle stage. This results in a lift that has excellent travel given it’s overall size. The lift includes notches to pull the chain down to initiate a climb. - The Launcher
This subsystem centers and indexes notes, launches them and scores in the Amp and Trap. The outer roller was made independent between Week 0 and Week 1 to allow us to score in the Trap by pushing the note out the top of launcher instead of the bottom. After we fixed some of our height efficiency issues that we had at Week 0, we didn’t need this feature, but kept the roller because it allowed us to receive a note directly from a human player. In earlier versions the outer roller was powered by the same Vortex Motor as the other rollers. We deigned the launcher to allow us to put spin on the note, but never ended up using it.
In general, this robot was highly robust and required less maintenance than almost any other robot we have fielded.
As always our code is never hidden and available here:
I would also like to take the opportunity to remind everyone that our hoodie fundraiser will be open for oders until May 10th 2024. You can get yours here:
