Check This Out

I thought this was a very smooth article on the New Hampshire teams at UTC. This was front page of the Nashua Telegraph.

Special Thanks go out to Alvirne High school Team 42

Nice, good to see something accurate about F.I.R.S.T. (fox  )

wow, that article seriously just made today all nice and happy for me (first day back from spring break, going to school at 7:30 isn’t fun). this is the first or second article that’s shown FIRST in it’s true light. i only hope the major news networks see this, and do stuff like that.

I was really impressed with this reporter - he spent the whole weekend with us, asking questions (duh that’s what a reporter does…), but they were actually intelligent questions. There was one stretch while we were trying to rebuild a transmission with only a couple of minutes left before our next match when I noticed him watching us and taking it all in. No interruptions, no stupid questions, just observing and appreciating all that was going into the experience.

BTW Chris - great driving!!!

I agree with your assesment. The reporter came to our pit area a number of times, and often times asked questions…and some times just watched as if trying to absorb what it was all about.

They printed a few good quotes from several of my team mates, and I remember how interested he was when one member of our team was “excited” about being paired up with Nashua HS in one of our mid-day matches. (which ended up as a win if I recall)

Anyways, it was a good piece of reporting.

Good work Nashua Telegraph!

Jonathan Van Fleet, the reporter who did this article has written other stories about our team, even covering kickoff at BAE, he always impresses me with his reporting and his genuine interest in the FIRST program, at one point he was in my pits no notebook or anything and I was teaching him how Merrimack’s robot worked because he wanted to know for his own sake, very impressive, and he remebered my name from kickoff which was majorly cool!

That was very nice!

Every year the press tries to make a comparison between the game and a popular sport, saying our robot “plays basketball” or even “soccer”!

There are some good articles, though.

Well…this is what FIRST wants to compare the competition to. Remember the kick-off this year. That was one of the big messages, to make the FIRST experience and competition take on the excitement and flavor of a superbowl football game.

It is no wonder the reporters draw these parallels after being “told” this by FIRST itself.

I don’t mind it at all myself…

Wow…a newspaper article that actually states the truth about a team…

I know of another newspaper in NH that likes to print false information and seems to favor one of the teams (which will remain anonymous)…

But congrats to Nashua, Merrimack, Southegan, Alvirn, Bishop Guertin, West, and all the other NH teams I might have forgotten…GOOD JOB GUYS!
