What happened to 384 and 1123?

What a lovely schedule, absolutely nothing wrong with it at all :slightly_smiling_face:

384 lost their workspace, and are switching to FTC

Don’t know what happened to 1123 but still very devastated :frowning:

Main mentor was moving pretty far away, iirc.

Sparky is not dead. They have several headwinds, but are trying to us FTC to create a robotics culture in their school. I expect them to be back in the near future.

I need to know if the cheese puns will be back though.

Will VABLA still be alive until inter-district plays open? I may try and get teams from my district to play there.

I certainly hope so!

I’ll be quite upset if the only CHS FRC event west of Richmond is cancelled, I think access to a nearby event is an equity issue.

CHeeSe puns will live on. If only to remind certain groups that they aren’t the only “chezy” team in FRC.

This Is The Whey.

Oh boy

As mentioned in the email Daniel posted, FIRST Chesapeake announced a Travel Incentive Grant to hopefully fill Blacksburg and Portsmouth.

Team registrations have trended upwards slightly:

And Blacksburg has gained a couple more teams:

Wow, 25 event buddies for MDOWI and MDSEV. It makes sense, but that’s gotta be the most commonality we’ve seen in CHS so far right?

Still at 105 teams registered:

Five teams (who had all previously not had a second event) were added to Blacksburg bringing it up to 24 teams:

Everyone except for 5841 now has two plays:

The fact that MDSEV and MDOWI have 36 teams each is insane. Both of those events were originally capped at 32, but they continued letting waitlisted teams in, which now brings us to a point where neither VABLA nor VAPOR can run. CHS needs to take accountability for this and bring both MDSEV and MDOWI back down to 32 teams, maybe bump VAFAL down to 32 again as well.

hmm, so we take teams that are local and force them to drive 3 hours? not sure that’s a solution. well it IS a solution, but not a good one.

The idea is to balance the number of away events teams from different areas have. MD/NOVA teams can at least get 1 local event, but teams from the Blacksburg area would have to have both district events + dcmp as away events.

Since there are 25 teams that are currently doubling up MDSEV/MDOWI, if just a few of those that are able to choose to switch to an away event, or if teams travelling to more populated events change their travel destination to VABLA/VAPOR instead, we can have more equitable event accessibility across the district.

Is this 28 team minimum new? I thought there were contingencies for running smaller events after a PNW event had to run with around 25 teams last year.

CHS had sent out an email indicating that FIRST mandates a minimum of 28 teams per event. While the manual has provisions for smaller events (allowing 8 alliances with min 25 teams), it’s likely the 28 is meant to provide some margin for no-shows, cancellations, etc.

New England cancelled an event last year that failed to reach the same 28 team threshold:
