CHS Platter - Week 5 - Frozen Pizza

Week 4 Recap - Lacking Cheese Puns

At the only event of the weekend in Oxon Hill both semifinal matchups went to three matches. A string of electrical and radio issues plagued the 1 seed alliance of 1885, 2534, and 5724, who lost in semifinals to the 5 seed alliance of 620, 4472, and 4541. A questionable human player penalty knocked out the 3 seed alliance of 2914, 836, and 4242 in the third match against the 2 seed alliance of 612, 1418, and 6543.

In the finals the unlikely matchup of 2 vs 5 also went to three matches. The 5 seed boasted the steal of the draft picking up 4541 as the 12th overall pick and saw amazing play throughout the Playoffs. In the end it wasn’t enough to keep up with the offense of 612 and 1418. This marks 612’s second event win of the year, and 6543’s first ever blue banner. 612 now holds the top spot in district points.

Interesting CHSy Facts:

  • After zero elimination appearances in their first 2 years, 6543 pumaTech has 2 medals already this season.
  • The week 4 winning alliance of 612, 1418, and 6543 now has a combined total of 6 medals this season (4 golds and 2 silvers). All three teams also medaled at week 1 VAHAY.

CHS Platter - Week 5 - Frozen Pizza

The final CHS event before District Championship takes us back to Blacksburg (not Richmond) where many of the week 1 competitors from Deep Run will be in attendance. The 2nd ranked event in our CHSyness scale, Blacksburg is expected to pack offensive power. Many of these teams haven’t competed since week 1 and have had plenty of time to plan out and use their unbag time and withholding allowance to make changes.

DCMP Points Cutoff Prediction?

We estimate that teams having 54 points or greater will advance to fill the 51 spots available (58 - 7 CA winners) at the District Championship.

Blacksburg:

Number of Registered Teams: 34

Livestream: Primary, Full field view with corner insets

CHSyness: 8.19

Extra Sharp Prediction:
Winning alliance of 1262, 346, and 1086

The Favorites:

1262 (22.11) - After the previous top team took a tumble last week, the STAGs are the new top team in CHSyness heading into week 5. After winning with 346 in week 1 at Deep Run, 1262 has had plenty of time to come up with ways to gain some speed filling the Rocket. More Unicorn matches should be in their future if they can get a little help from alliance partners.

346 (21.11) - Rename Blacksburg to Flipadelphia, the RoboHawks are in town with the fastest and most consistent HAB 3 climb in the district. Ranked 1st in week 1, will 346 double down with 1262? Currently our vote for the best Cargo Ship robot in the district, this is 346’s event to lose.

384 (18.88) - SPARKY rode their HAB 3 flip to the Finals four weeks ago after starting qualification matches slowly. If they can start off on the right foot 384 may be able to challenge 346 for the top rank.

Others to watch for:

449 (14.88) - Blair Robot Project came into their own during Bethesda playoff matches, developing a capable Rocket bot that performed well under heavy defense. Their climber needs a lot of TLC or re-design to become reliable for the 3rd level, but other than that they should be a solid first pick in Blacksburg.

6802 (14.00) - This up and coming team seeded 2nd at Deep Run but failed HAB 3 climbs in the semi-finals ended their playoff run. If they can stay vertical the Mean Caimens will seed high again with their, although a little slow, HAB 3 climber.

401 (13.67) - Copperhead Robotics has plans to spend more time in the Playoffs than in the question box at their home event. This great looking robot was snubbed on awards in Portsmouth but if they have their control issues taken care of they’ll earn enough district points this weekend to advance to George Mason.

Season Platter Prediction Results:

  • There will be an average of 73 pizza boxes brought into events each week. (Current average: 74.011899889991197253 PB/Event/Week)
  • There will be 3 new CHS District prediction accounts this season, and a corresponding increase in cheese puns. (Only need one more)
  • VAHAY - 1731, 2363, and 339
  • VAGLE - 384, 1262, and 1793
  • MDBET - 1885, 4472, and 2912
  • MDOWI - 836, 614, and 3389
  • VAPOR - 2363,1610, and 1793
