Any civil engineers out there? Just wondering, b/c I’m considering going into that field, and was wondering the pluses and minuses of the job. How much schooling, and the work place? Any info would be great! thank you,

no one is a civil engineer? well, i guess that makes sense since it is robotics and not bridge building or something like that. Well, any general advise for the engineering feild?
bye bye

my dads a civil engineer, does that count? from what he’s told me, civil engineering is about 10% engineering and 90% filing for permits, dealing with enviromental groups, etc.
I am an architectural engineering student (emphasis on structural) at MSOE. I can’t speak for civil engineering, but its not too different in the general scope of things. Concerning the pace, as long as you keep your with your homework, you’ll probably be fine. I am a junior and I am still heavily involved with FIRST as well as ASCE competitions (Steel Bridge, Concrete Canoe) while maintaining a nice GPA. Obviously it will be very math intensive, but its not bad. You probably wouldn’t get the graphics classes that I had, but you might - those are fun if you do. We never touch on bridges, unfortunately, so I can’t help you with any info about classes dealing with that (though I can’t imagine the design process to be that different from a giant beam with extreme live load).
Good luck in your endeavors!
