Class 1M Proximity Sensor

Anyone know if a Class 1M laser would be allowed?

Thanks,
CM

Please see R07, part D in the associated blue box.

Keep in mind that this sort of thing is subject to change year to year.

That is such an LRI answer…

So the question is about Class 1M lasers and the rules state explicitly that Class 1 is allowed, not explicitly Class 1M. It’s important to note that Class 1M is not a subset of Class 1 but rather a different classification.

Class 1 lasers are safe to view with no protection.

Class 1M lasers are safe to view with no protection provided no magnification systems (binoculars, etc) are used to view them.

So, in answer to OP: No, Class 1M lasers are not legal.

Thank you for clarifying that Marshall. I was thinking it i was a subset.
