CLASSMATE HELP NEEDED CRITICALLY!!!!!!!

When we reimaged the classmate, we don’t have enough file space for labview or any of the updates on the driver station. how can we create the file space needed to run the classmate at competition? we are at peachtree which is this week… so we need help bad!!!

There is a fix that first posted on their site at the beginning of the build season, that teams were supposed to follow. This fix gives 5gb of free space for labview and such. I don’t have the link, but if you search for it on here, you can find it. Also, you dont need to use the classmate if you have another laptop. You can always install labview on another computer and just use the classmate as the driving station. Or you can even use the other laptop for driving. You would have to create a Driver user and make the dashboard/driver station load at startup on this user, but it is possible.

Here’s the procedure for it:

This link is to the KOP website. Under Control system you are looking for “Classmate Drive Space Recovery Procedure” (linked directly by rahilm above) and the “Classmate Drive Space Installation Files”.

EDIT: People who knew what they were doing beat me to it. Try theirs first. I’ll leave this for completeness’ sake.

I’d recommend booting a linux distro with GPartEd from USB, wiping the Classmate, then retrying the imaging process.

Just my $0.02 as a self-employed computer worker.

NOTE - I can’t test this, and don’t know if there’s a hidden recovery partition you shouldn’t touch or anything. Just check before wiping, and maybe dd to an external (CloneZilla does a good job).

Recovery distro I use for this kind of thing: http://partedmagic.com/doku.php

You can use UNetbootin (http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/) to install it to a USB drive and boot that, though I’ve generally had more success with external disk drives. Try the USB image first; it’s faster.

If you use the USB stick, please, PLEASE, DON’T use the Classmate image.

We have reimaged it a thousand times and followed those steps everytime, and we still don’t have enough file space. we only have 1.92 GB on there. and we need more space than that. we also don’t have another computer to use with LV at competition…

Might be annoying but just to make sure. You did indeed made backups of the files on reimaging key and then added the replacement files provided on the FIRST website that properly frees up space. I cannot think of any other way this problem still persists for you.

Is this classmate going to be your driver station as well? I would offer you my laptop to work with (it has labVIEW on it) since I am attending peachtree regional as well, as long as you don’t need it when our team has a match at that same time. Otherwise i would bring a school laptop or a laptop from home and install labVIEW on it. (you have your CD and key still, right?)

labVIEW runs slow on the old classmates anyway, so I would ditch that as a programming computer. See if you can get a copy of windows 7 starter, or a custom modded windows 7 netbook edition, I installed one on a 15GB VM on my laptop and it worked great with netbeans and labVIEW on it.
