During assembly of our swerve XS modules two to the contact bearings got put in upside down. This resulted in a bunch of gunk from the carpet and overall wear getting inside the bearings. Our first thought of cleaning them is to soak them in degreaser then apply a bunch of red and tacky grease to re grease them. Is there a better way of cleaning and re greasing the bearings?

Nah, that’s perfect. Be careful with the degreaser, the water based types can cause corrosion especially if you over-dilute them. May need a toothbrush to scrub out the old grease, give them a few washes.
As great as it seems, don’t toss them in an ultrasonic cleaner. Can cause weird damage on the ground surfaces.

Can you elaborate?
i.e. What was the cleaning solution? Was it heated? What make/model of ultrasonic cleaner was used (home jewelry cleaner or laboratory grade)? Was this personal experience? What was the damage? What condition was the bearing before cleaning? etc.
Thanks.
