Cleaning Swerve Drive Modules

Hello Chief Delphi,
My team has some SDS MK3 Swerve Drive modules that are VERY dirty. We have the idea that we could clean the entire module, excluding the motors of course, with diluted 70% isopropyl alcohol. Is this a bad idea, and if so what should we do instead?

We did this in the fall before our offseason competition. It helps by getting out a lot of the gunk that builds up from driving. We found a lot of carpet, hair, a sticker, and dust in the grease covering the gears. Also found some loose screws that we retightened on reassembly. Couple of tips: get a ton of paper towels, normal towels, and probably something to get into small spaces (toothpick, q-tip, etc), and make sure to keep track of every part.

Also, make sure to label which modules are supposed to go where when reassembling the drivetrain. We uh, didn’t do that and uh, it didn’t go well.

Thanks, we will use all of these tips.

If you are going that far replace the X contact bearings for the wheel swivel. Based on your description they are already likely damaged and its cheap insurance.

Also make sure you properly regrease as directed in the assembly instructions.
