Hey guys! My team is designing a climber and I needed some opinions. We have an option to do either a drawer slide, or a custom design which is basically a metal pole inside another one and is pulled up and down using a string. My team wants to know if drawer slides are effective and if there are any other teams that have used it that we could see the pros and cons, and if they are cheap and easy to make. Thanks!
You’re going to have rigidity problems with drawer slides. But telescoping climbers are a hefty design challenge if you’ve never done one and don’t understand it.
My advice LOOK AT THE 118 EVERYBOT CLIMBER.
I agree with the comment above, choose a climb over being able to go under the trench.
If your team has the resources, you could consider doing a climb similar to snowproblem’s, I’d recommend reading their build thread here to further understand routing.
(seriously though, don’t show up to a comp without a climber)
Thanks! We want to go under the trench but climbing is super tricky with that. We might have to pivot the telescoping climb which won’t be easy but thanks for your input!
Take a look at Kettering’s climber as well. We have a 2 stage pvc lift to get the hook up and then we winch from there and it fits under the trench. Will post a photo once it’s done.
Is there a CAD file I can find?
Not yet, but it’s fairly self explanatory from the photo.
