Climbing speed

How fast does your climber and dumper need to be to be competitive?

It depends where you’re playing. I can think of a few regionals where you’d want to be able to score 30+ points in autonomous, 4 or 5 cycles of 4 frisbees in teleop, then climb in under 15 seconds, just to stay in the game.

Others, you can get by with a quick 10 point hang, as long as you do some other scoring.

As long as you can lay out any sort of strategy where your robot would score as many points as possible in about 2 minutes, whatever works for you works altogether

Generally your robot’s abilities are very relative to the regional you take part in. Some regionals barely even have robots that are capable of climbing (or at the very least, capable of climbing to the 2nd “floor”). Some robots need a period of time longer than the endgame period to score 20 points while climbing. Some amazing robots manage to score 30 points while climbing in roughly 10-15 seconds. You should go to the “Robot Showcase” forum and watch videos there, most teams showcase their robot’s capabilities and the time it takes them to climb or shoot in their very own lab is usually not that different than the time it takes them to do so in an actual match.
