Closed Loop Jag with 2x Motor & 1x Encoder

Looking for advice and wisdom on setting up our drive system. We have two motors geared together on each drive side and one encoder on each side. We would like to use Jags in Velocity mode, but of course rules require 1 Jag per motor. How do we get closed loop control to both Jags from 1 encoder? Is the solution as simple as building a Y cable from the encoder to the Jags so that they are getting the same feedback? Or are there problems with this?
