Dick Hoft at Missouri. Have steered product strategy and mentored new PE engineers for the last 25 years at Emerson, Whirlpool, Borgwarner, and Eaton. This is the most accessible PE introduction I have seen.
I got as close as a mechanical engineer can get to Power Electronics in school… Led in via audio I love that stuff! Understanding it has been a huge help as the world becomes more and more electronics and motor driven!
Somehow your post grabbed “ARRL Handbook!” out of the old in-skull core memory and I realized by old crusty copy, given to me by a neighbor ham in my teens, disappeared long ago so I grabbed a 2013 copy cheap at a used book store in the last week.
I agree that the TDK presentation is really good (I knew what a charge pump converter was but couldn’t tell you how they worked and now it’s like “well, duh!”) but I was blown away by the ARRL Handbook. Though I have a General License (KC9YJY) I mostly just messed around on 2M so I wasn’t going to build my own rig or anything but I was blown away by the non-radio part of the handbook - batteries, power supplies, oscillators, filters, mixers, op amps, wow!
It was like a blast from the past - but better! It’s like a big chunk of a BS in ElecEng in a single book.
Not trying to distract this thread but it really got me pumped up to freshen up on this stuff.
There is a lot of great source material out there…
