Comments about 2007 Game

First off, congratulations to all teams this year. I’m a mentor for rookie team 2207 (White Bear Lake, MN) and just got back from the Wisconsin regional. Very exciting.

I just wanted to leave some feedback about the game, as I saw it during our regional.

Being part of a rookie team, I wasn’t sure what to expect. There was a lot of physical playing, but I didn’t think that much of it went overy any line. I’ve seen some concern through other threads, but nothing at our event seemed over the line. Robots tipping over or broken plexiglass is a part of the game as I see it.

With 54 teams, space was at a premium. I would have liked a bit more room in our pit, but I understand that there is only so much that can be afforded.

The field organizers kept us on time and were extremely organized. However they were ultra tight on players staying in the box and where everyone was going.

The repitition of the presentations made some of the ceremonies monotonous. Also, repeating each team name during each championship match was more than necessary.

As for the scoring, lifting has been a part of FIRST competions for a number of years. This year, it seemed to be overweighted to me. Lifters seemed to be a dime a dozen (although somewhat unreliable). What was not utilized was the camera. I only saw one or two robots make a real attempt at puting a ringer on in autonomous mode. I think more points should have been associated with autonomous, rather than lifting. Our robot was purely offensive, with no autonomous, so I may be a little one sided, but that’s just my opinion.

Anyways, great season and I look forward to next year!
