Computer Recommendation For Solidworks 09/Inventer 2010

I was just wondering what specs are good to run Solidworks and Inventor.

I just purchased a Dell XPS 15 Laptop:

Intel Core i7-2620M Processor
NVIDIA GeForce 550M 2GB Graphics Card
6GB DDR3 RAM
500GB Hard Drive
15.6" (1080p) Screen

I think this will run everything fine. Just would like some input on good specs.

That is much better specs than what I use. 4GB of RAM, an i3 or i5 level CPU should be fine, and a more lower ended GPU would be plenty unless you want to look at pretty robots and spin them all day. You don’t need high end stuff to make the thing workable unless you really care about the graphics or flawless processing.

Yeah. My XPS hasn’t come in yet, still using my HP. It lags a bit on big assemblies. It has 4GB RAM and a Intel Core 2 Duo Processor.

I can’t wait for my XPS to come in. It’s been about 3 weeks.

I’m running Inventor fine on a Pentium Dual-Core e5200@3ghz and a 9600GT.

Seems like you’re set for another 4 or 5 releases

Haha… My old Desktop had that video card. It worked very well. ’

I have one question though.
My middle button has stopped working for the rotation feature in Solidworks. Does anyone have any ideas of what to do to fix this. I am currently using the arrow keys for rotation. This can get annoying at times.

Sweet laptop! We built 10 Windows 7 64 bit pro workstations last year based on the i5 with 4gb of ram and a decent, but not pro, graphics card. Our prototype PC had an entry level pro card in it, but our testing showed the rendering advantage was minimal. I have run both inventor and 3ds Max on my i5/6GB laptop with no issues… You should be good, be sure to keep the drivers updated for best results!

Wow. I wish my team could have 10 computers for CAD. We have two good desktops and the students bring their own laptops if they are interested in CADing for our team.
