Condolences to Team Afghanistan's captain

Team 4004, the MARS Rovers, would like to extend our deepest condolences to Team Afghanistan’s captain, Fatemah whose father passed away in recent ISIS attack. We hope that FIRST can help to bring down walls between nations by offering understanding and cooperation among its young citizens.

What a sad set of circumstances. I truly hope she can recover from this horrible tragedy.

Wow, this just terrible to hear, mine and all of my fellow friends in FIRST’s condolences are with the family in their times of trouble.

I think that we as a community can make a positive change out of this tragic event though. This shows me that that both FIRST and VEX need to push further into the places of civil unrest and war to teach the younger generations that there are alternative competitions to fighting ideological wars and turf battles. While the rest of the world focuses on doing what it can to the current members it should be our communities focus to engage members in bettering the world through friendly competitions rather than joining an ideological war effort with real blood and real death. If we can expand community teams into rural areas then there is a chance that we can, even if it’s in the future, both play a part in stopping the conflict and training the next generation to solve humanity’s problems.

As someone who recently lost their father, my heart goes out to this team, and all those effected by such terrible circumstances.

If there is a support page for friends and family, please do post it.

FRC is helping me get through my loss, I know we can try to help their family do the same.

Well that certainly is unfortunate. Losing a parent certainly isn’t easy.
I really hope people someday learn that Humans are Humans before being Muslims or Christians or Buddhists or Jews.

Awful to hear. I can’t believe how many of these stories go unnoticed for millions of kids around the world.

I hope the community can do something for families like this one, I’m just not sure where to start.

Over the last couple years I have had the pleasure of meeting many more new international teams especially at Vex Worlds (see the Syrian refugee team) and this is a huge reality check to hear about stories like this from war-torn terrorist-centric areas of the world. Many of us might not have the perfect lifestyle, but we have the privilege of going home to a relatively safe area without the consistent threat of a terrorist attack or from our own government.

A sad tragedy in a long list that keeps on growing.

Im sorry to hear this and wish the best for her and her family moving forward.

I could go on a rant about the endless, self-perpetuating war but I think others have said my peace.

A good way we could potentially help would be either a gofundme to help with funeral costs (they might not need help), or sending cards. I think the latter is probably easier to arrange. Food for thought.

With that in mind, we are going to take up a collection of condolences and wishes of encouragement and compile them in a card/letter to mail to Fatemah and her family. Please hand-write a brief note, along with your team name and number, take a picture/scan and send it to us either via PM, attached to a reply or via e-mail to [email protected]. We will post the final letter here for all to see once we have sent it.

Spread the word - let’s show the world the power of the FIRST community.
