Reading through the rules- I can’t seem to find any significance of the Confernece setup that they talked about. At first I thought it was the way the animations were judged. But it states that Every Regional will have a winning animation.
Did I miss something here or did FIRST/Autodesk have Brain Freeze when the rules were devised. (Would be the first time on that- It appears that in my oppinion appearantly)
every reagional will have a winning animation and the top two after that get to have thier animations judged in houston. But the conferences serve nothing! at least not that we know of…after reading the rules, it appears that the conferences are the first step for something that autodesk wants to do later…maybe in the next couple of years or something.
You guys gotta know who to write to if you wanna get answers. Here’s what I got:
The way it works is that animations will be submitted to be judged in one of five conferences. Various regionals make up the conferences. Each team that submitted an animation will be able to cast one vote for the animation they best feels fits the criteria. Judging will take place at each regional event. The “judging official” will monitor the judging area, and collect the ballots, and tally up the votes and relay that information to the FIRST Regional Manager who is in charge of that particular regional. The winners will be presented with their trophy at the awards ceremony on Saturday.
Winners of all those regionals will then advance to the final round of judging which will be conducted here at Autodesk by Discreet and Autodesk employees, as well as animation experts.
I wrote to the address given- [email protected] if you have another NON-PUBLISHED address then good for you!
If the published address doesn’t get answers then what good is it?
Sunny still failed to get the question answered though.
Is there one winner at the nationals or are their winners for each of the five conferences(or how ever many there are)? This is never clearly stated. (even in Sunny’s responce) If there are five winners then that answers the question. If not then there still seems to be no point in the setup of conferences. Each regional votes for and awards animations from that regional not the entire conference (according to the rules I read)
So then what’s the point. if they want 5-first place winners then just award that. If there are the two best animations comming from Florida and they are in the same conferentce then one would get second place and the other first- yet the second place winner will be better than all the other first place winners from the other conferences (assuming that these were the two best animation as stated above) So I think it dilutes it to not giving the proper credit to the proper teams.
The two runner-ups get submitted as well (according to the rules) so whoever answered Sunny’s email didn’t seem to know whats going on either.
