Ken,
Congrats on winning the award! I hope I’m not over stepping my bounds here, but on behalf of Team 47 ‘Chief Delphi’ (and our extended web page family) - We are very proud of you, and wish you continued success with the Husky Brigade. It’s always nice to hear the kind of wisedom that past winners Mike B. from Boston Edison/Plymouth North, and now you bring to our discussion forums and rumor mill. Thanks for participating and we hope this trend continues - maybe next year we can get Joe J. up on that stage! Ken, we are proud to claim you as one of our own - a member of our web page participants! Congrats! Mike Aubry

Mike-

Thanks for your good words - I am totally thrilled to be honored like this. When I have casual conversation with people on the ‘outside’ about what I do with my free time, it makes me feel great to see them appreciate and envy the combination of ‘giving something to the community’ and ‘the thrill of serious competition.’ But this is different - the people who already ‘get it’ were honoring our team and I for trying to live up to the standards of real heroes like Woodie. Makes me want to try harder!

Having a forum like this one to talk about our beliefs and opinions is so valuable - I consider it an important part of really being into FIRST. Thanks to your team for providing this great service!

Ken

(psst - its Woodie & Huskie, the y’s are, um, absent! :))

Ken,
sorry about the spelling errors - I was in a hurry to post the note and had just gotten back in town from the 19 hour drive back from florida! It isn’t much of an excuse !

I would also like to extend my congratulations to Ken. I met Ken for the first time before a match in which we played against him. After that time I had a few more chances to talk to him, and from my limited experience, the award couldn’t have gone to a nicer person. Congratulations Ken.

I have known Ken for a couple of years now. He is what he seems to be on first meeting: a really great guy and an enthusiastic supporter of FIRST.

I could not have been happier to have Ken win the award.

For the second year in a row (as soon as I know from the description that I have not won it  I think to myself, I am sure I won’t know this person and then BAM! I am on my feet clapping for a friend and shouting, ‘WORTHY! WORTHY!’

Well done, students of Pontiac Northern. You have a great one in Ken.

Thanks you guys. I should note that both of your teams beat our team in Florida - nice going! (argh!)

It is a great feeling to have people who are as thoughtful as you guys say I deserve it. I got a lot of help. Our teachers deserve more credit I think, because they have a tougher time of it than us engineers.

Thanks,
Ken

Tom-

Did you know when you and I were talking in the pits on Friday I almost missed our match? Our guys were already queued up past Andrea! I would’ve got the Lets Kill Kenny Award from our team if I had been late!

Thanks again!

We’ve had the occasion to have Ken as an adversary for two seasons (where he led his Huskie team to a 3rd place at the nationals TWICE) and the competition has been intense, but Ken has always been a nice guy: it didn’t matter if he was beating us or losing to us. This year, we finally got to be allies and work TOGETHER for a change and I’m more sold than ever on Ken’s value to his students and to all of FIRST. It’s easy for me to see why his kids are so inspired by him: he 's the type of person who SHOULD be held up as a role model. Congrats, Ken!
