Congrats to 254 on winning the other championship!

254F just won the VRC World Championship! Pretty cool to see it live. Congratulations to them on their dual wins this year.

Can someone who’s knowledgeable about the VRC game this year explain what happened in the match? Also I thought it was a 3 team alliance (1 being backup)?

254 Vex mentor here!

I’ll walk through the basics of this match(F3).

So we start with field position. Red alliance has the advantage of placing the robots on the field last. We noticed the middle goal was going to be uncontested so we decided to NOT run our extender clamp. Unfortunately we missed. Our partners, PieBotics, are super duper fast and won the 1v1.

After Auto it was important that we either get possession of OR knock over the tall Mobile Goal. The black and blue robot on the other alliance can put rings on the top pegs (its worth alot of points). After we accomplished that we needed to get our alliance colored mobile goal to score rings on it. During this time our alliance partner was able to steal and corral the blue mobile goal.

After we had possession it was time to work on that fallen over tall goal. Goals on your side of the field are worth points. Once it was in the corner it was just a matter of keeping that fallen goal safe, getting rings from the human player, and waiting out the clock.

At T-15 contact with the opposing ramp is a BIG penalty. Usually a very safe time to climb. Then it was just a matter of synchronization and a double climb (something our alliance work on extensively on the practice field and during other elims matches). Let me know if there is anything else I can explain. Its a pretty wild game!

1619 won both the FTC and FRC championships this year, as well.

Absolutely, it was incredible to watch, especially the rush for the mobile goals in the first minute. Why was knocking down the mobile goal important? Was the other alliance not able to pick it up to score into? Also, wanted to know what happened with the other alliance during the endgame. It looked heartbreaking.

The black and blue team on the other alliance was able to score on the top peg so we needed to stop that. I’m sure they can pick it up when its knocked over but its very hard and it can be easy to ensure it stays knocked over for the whole match.

I can’t speak for the other alliance during the endgame but it might have been due to the drivetrain over heating(which stopped them from effectively being able to climb). There are thermal protections on the vex motors that will stop them from moving if they get too hot. We also had this problem in match 2 and were basically unable to move at all after that big Tug-O-War.
