Barry Bozack was honored at a Banquet today because he was named to the USA 1st Academic Team. The award looks at GPA, as well as community involvement and work experience. He is one of 20 students out of 1600 to be given this honor.
He had to give a speech and of course it was all about FIRST!!! Way to go Barry
Barry when do you have time to do school or anything when your at lego camp mentoring teams or driving wilily nilly around the country you have been to south Florida at least 4 times in the past year. congrats
(And I have to agree–between being sick, getting stuck in Columbia for two extra days, and running all over the country, how the heck does he do it? He must have a twin or something.)
I appreciate all of the congrats. Everyone be sure to buy a USA Today tomorrow (Monday, April 16).
All of the USA Today Academic Team members will have their pictures and small write ups about them in it. Mine will focus on FIRST and my involvement with FRC and FLL. I want any publicity I get from this to be reflected back on FIRST because I feel that I could not have done it without the experiences I’ve had, all of the mentors I’ve had taught me, and my opportunity to mentor students as well. This opportunity simply would not have been possible without FIRST, and I am grateful.
By the way. The speech Wendy mentioned was at the capitol in Tallahassee in front of the Florida Board of Education. There’s my contribution for Dean’s homework. I saw Chancelor Armstong yesterday, and he was impressed to hear of teams 1902, 233, and 179 to be on Einstein.
Barry -
Congratulations on your wonderful achievement - it sounds like you had a great experience!!! We will definitely be picking up a copy of the USA Today - I will use it to show our local school administrations why FIRST is so important here. Congrats again!
I just got home from Tampa. The 1st Academic Team was given a formal banquet this morning, there should be video of the event posted online later. What an honor to be in the same category as these other exceptional students, I’m happy to be able to bring FIRST into the spotlight. For those that were unable to pick up a copy of the paper today, here is where it is online at USAToday.com.
This summer I will try to post the specific scholarship application as well as my essays that helped get me nominated for this position so future students can also try to achieve this goal. There is nothing I would love to see more than a continuation FIRSTers in national news.
