Wow, I have to say that that segment about FIRST was one of the best Ive seen in a while. It was complete, talked about alliances, about the animations…I am just thrilled about how well it went.
To boot, personally I felt that the CNN crews were a joy to work with. Great job!

I agree, I just saw the segment myself, if was wonderful. Finally FIRST gets some recognition. I hope more programs come on like that. Does anyone know when A&E will be showing thier program about first?

Hey,
I agree it was a great example of FIRST, it is to bad they showed it the last 10 minutes of the program but at least it got shown at all. I thought it came out really good and I liked how they showed both the animation and the competition. Congratualtions to everyone who was it. Good luck!

I agree, it was a good segment by CNN. I was very impressed. It’s amazing what a good story journalists can do on FIRST if they dedicate some time to getting their facts straight and to actually understanding the whole point of FIRST.
I’ve been disappointed too many times by Chicago news and their coverage of “robots playing basketball,” their short clips about FIRST, and their lack of understanding of the whole program. The evening we won the Midwest Regional, they had a 30 second brush over about FIRST and right after it had a a 3-4 minute in depth piece about a pipe organ.
Far too few reporters take the time to do a good story on FIRST. They would rather take the easy way out and scratch the surface instead of going deeper as CNN did.
I think we should all let producers know that we appreciate the stories they do and encourage them to do more in the future. I’ll send an email to CNN this afternoon.

After we won the Midwest Regional with you guys, we tried to get the local newspaper to give our team and the competition some coverage. Their reply was “We already did a story about that last year!”
