During alliance selections every team picked outside the top 8. Has this ever happened before?

As “extra RP” cargo/hang become more common(89%/84%), the rankings tend to reveal less who the best teams are and instead more who had the most luck with their schedule. Thus picking not being as correlated to rank is to be expected.
(This is all general case logic, I’m not commenting on any specific teams, I haven’t watched a match of MSC)

I don’t think so… at least that I’ve seen… it was so odd, but with our scouting data, the picks made sense, it was really just a tough competition and a lot of high scoring teams ranked lower.

Yes, Daly Division 2018: Daly Division (2018) - The Blue Alliance
As someone in the division, there were several off-field declines the night before. but the actual selection played out with only robots out of the top 8 being selected.
