Container? What container??-4976 Teaser

A little teaser for you guys that we shot the other night
Container

Brought to you by team #4976!

Looks nice and fast. Great work.

Oh come on… are you really NOT going to have a giant hand on the end of that pole. It would look pretty funny if you did.

Very nice claw!

Looks great, guys! Fast and reliable. One note though- its difficult to tell from the video whether or not your arm is extending past the step. If the arm does extend past the step (even slightly), and hits an opposing robot, it could be considered a violation of G18

ROBOTS may not contact anything beyond the STEP. Momentary contact as a result of ROBOT interaction over the STEP is
an exception to this rule. If a ROBOT becomes inoperable or “stuck” while some portion of the ROBOT is extending beyond the
STEP, the ROBOT will not receive multiple FOULS.

…slurp…

Thanks guys. Yes a risk for G18 but if all goes to plan we’ll only be across the step in autonomous

What if someone else reaches for the same bin?

This method can go to hell in a hand-basket if someone is pulling the can up at an angle, especially if this arm doesn’t beat the opponent’s. It’s a risk you take with auto, I guess?

Do you have a plan to manipulate the overturned RC onto a stack of scored totes, or are you just denying it to the opposing alliance?

Yes a risk we’ll take I guess. Plan is to get to the container first, the arm action is about 1-2 seconds. We tested tug of war scenarios and we have a firm grip on the container. The hooks do let go before the robot gets tippy so that is a plus.

As for knocked over containers, yes we have a mechanism to right them and place them on stacks

Now there is a tug of war machine. 1 vs 4 (Guessing you need to move a lil’ less forward possibly. But…I’m only guessing at this juncture!)
