hey, did anyone hear about the INCITE contest thing at IRI, the contest with the 80/20 stuff? was anyone interested in that?
I did not hear about it. Can you share any details?
it’s an online contest using a browser based cad program to create something out of 80/20 material that could be used for material handling (trasportaion, storage, stuff like that). it starts in september, and some of the prizes are thing like credit towards purchases from 80/20 or cash to use for your 2010 robot
Hey!
So I work for the company which created the contest, I was one of the writers for it. I will be posting an official thread on CD in the next few days that will contain all the information as well as links for the Contest Sign Up.
This is a really great opportunity for all the FRC teams. It’s free to join and you can win up to $1500 in prizes, $500 of that being cash or a check signed out to your team to use for their team/robot during build season. All you have to do is submit up to 5 designs and you are done!
I can’t wait for this competition to come out! You actually get to design something and have a chance to get your CAD drawing created… Now I’m sure there’s going to be rules about budget and stuff like that… but still… You can’t argue with getting your CAD drawing made for free!!! Plus you can also win money for your team… which I know we need right now :ahh:
Can’t wait for the competition to start!
What will the contest be graded on?
So all you have to do is sign up for free, use the a browser based CAD program that allows a user to create 3D designs using 80/20 extrusions, panels, piece parts, and accessories. The design has to be for material handling/something you need for your team - carts, pit, shelving unit, table, etc.
The contest will be graded on creativity, following the rules (not going over the limit, only right angles, using the program, etc.), and design complexity. All designs have to have the Bill Of Materials add up to at most $1000. The BOM is actually displayed in the program as you use it so you know right away how much you are spending. And if you win you can get the already made parts for your design for free, all you’ll need to do is assemble it.
More info and an Actual Contest Thread will be coming soon
Do you have to be a student to join the contest or is it open to anybody and everybody on the team?
It can be anyone on the team but if your design happens to win, the prizes and the money will go to the team. How you disperse all that however is up to the team leader/main contact/adult mentor of that team
My team is definately doing this! We had an 80/20 demo van pay us a visit recently, and we agreed that we definately want to use more 80/20.
Any word on this?
another thread should be up soon with more details
