Converter / Convertor outputting 12V instead of 5V

We’re following the 2011 FRC Power Distribution Diagram - Alternative configuration 24V solenoid. Link:

In it, it tells us to connect the converter to the router. The converter is supposed to output 5V according to the label on its back. However, according to our measurement it is outputting 12V.

Could it be a faulty converter? Can someone measure the voltage being outputted on their converter and post their results?

It should put out 5 volt, assuming there is no internal fault and you wired it properly. 12 volt input to the red and black and connect the radio to the yellow and black.

Make sure you connect it properly, refer to the following thread:

I have tested the voltage between yellow and black and it is approx. 5V.

Our problem now is that, the camera could have been fried, but we cannot set up our camera without the converter, we did not look at the power distribution sheet and now we are trying to get the camera working, I think we put 12volts inside the camera and fried it… but the converter should have converted it to 5 volts.

We cannot set up our camera electrically, we cannot get a connection using the crossover cable. We are not sure what to do…is our camera fried? If so… our router could be soon…

Why was the camera connected to 12V?

Also, like mentioned before, the wiring diagram for the power converter is on the back of the converter. It’s pretty self explanatory. You have an input (12V) and you have an output (5V). That 5V goes to the Dlink AP/Bridge/Router/Does-it-all device, and only that Dlink device. Wire the 12V side to the old Linksys’s 12V power connection. Just follow the wiring diagram you linked to.

I hope you didn’t fry anything. Try to connect it all properly first, then come back and tell us what’s going on. Don’t panic. Take it easy. Think it through. Follow instructions.

If you’re totally clueless on wiring, the Black wire is Negative/Ground (-), Red/Yellow wire is Positive (+)

After looking it up, we have realized that it is supposed to be connected to the %volt connector on the power distribution board.

We have the camera powered up now and its 5v, but we still cannot hook our driver station and detect the camera. So, I am guessing its fried…

Wait, are you talking about the Axis camera? The 12V to 5V converter is for the D-Link wireless bridge/access point?! It’s not for the camera. For the Axis camera, there is a 5V supply on the power distribution board for it.
