Converting a paintball gun tank into a tank for a pneumatic system (RoboSub)

Thanks to everyone for the input! I think I’ve settled on containing as much as possible within a sealed container. Pretty much everything will be contained within the container except for the actual pistons. Can you explain what you mean by this? For context, I’m will be using a spring extend, air return piston.

I’m looking to convert this paintball tank (https://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/tippmann-20-oz-co₂-tank) to be used in a pneumatic system for our RoboSub. I’m not sure what connector is standard for the paintball tanks after researching it, and I’m not sure what adapter would work for this application. Any advice would be much appreciated!

It’s real frustrating when people design products and don’t publish detailed specs for the crazy engineers down the road who want to use it for a different purpose, amiright?

The standard female thread for the tank itself is a 5/8-18 UNF (screw) thread. If you use the pin valve that comes with the tank, it has a male G1/2-14 output (best I can tell, that’s a British straight pipe thread standard).

If you use a regulator that attaches directly to that valve, you can probably find one with a more usable output.

Thank you so much for your reply!!! I’ve spent so much time trying to figure out what would work and haven’t found an answer. Now I am pointed in the right direction and I can hopefully find something that works.
