Converting Creo/ProE models to SolidWorks?

Hello All…

We’re trying to convert the PTC Tetrix Kit of Parts models found here (http://www.catalogds.com/db/service?d=first&c=browse) into models to use in SolidWorks.

We desperately need to do this fast, so we’d appreciate any help in getting them imported into SolidWorks.

We’ve tried to open them from the solidworks “Open” menu as ProE parts, Unigraphic parts, and regular “Parts” and SolidWorks asks, as usual, whether to use knitting or full analysis, etc, but upon clicking “OK” nothing happens.

Thanks

Hi Kirill - Have you tried exporting the Creo model as a step file, and then opening that step file in SolidWorks?

Hi Lisa, thanks for the quick reply.

I actually don’t have Creo installed on my PC; only SolidWorks. This is part of the reason I’ve been at a stand-still.

I’ll try and find the Creo CD but I’m not sure if I’ll be able to.

Do you know why SolidWorks is not importing the files when I open them?

You can open proE files directly in Solidworks. Just go to File-open and change the file type to proE.

Like I said in my original post, I’ve tried this but one I press OK on the import window solidworks does nothing. The window goes away and that’s the end of the story.

Do you have solidworks installed?

Yes. How would I import otherwise? :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh gosh, I read the posts wrong.

If you have Pro.E installed on your computer, you should be able to just natively import files.

Do you have the team login to the Pro.E (FIRST Portion) of the site? I’m pretty sure you can download Pro.E from there and try native import or use Pro.E to spit out a step like what Lisa mentioned earlier.

-RC

I do not have ProE or a login to the FIRST Portion of their website.

I am however downloading Creo Elements, which is what we used last year for FTC to open these models. Whether I’ll be able to use it or not (haven’t seemed to acquire a product key) will be a question I’ll have an answer to in the next hour.

Well, anyways guys, I ended up downloading PTC Creo 2.0, and manually importing all 200 or so models and re-saving all of them as STP models.

I then manually imported all 200 STP models into SolidWorks and saved them one-by-one into SolidWorks models, and now I’m all set.

We may put them up on our website in our resources section.

Will you (or someone) please export a STEP file of the complete field and share the files with the world? please?

I have Creo and ProE on my PC but… …not the student version so… …I can’t open the files either (unless I am just doing it wrong which is possible but I don’t think so…)

I am sure that others have the same problem. A STEP file is just the right thing to do.

Please help.

Autodesk should have a STEP version of the KoP and the field on their Educational website sometime this morning. See http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=110483

You can access a STEP model of the field at,

http://students.autodesk.com/?nd=kitofparts_view

If you are not a member of the Autodesk Education Community it is an easy process to sign up. Once you are logged in you can set the year filter to 2013 and Category to Competition Field Step. Refer to attached image.

I have modeled most of the field including the pyramids, goals etc, but left off some of the details that I did not think were critical to helping you plan for the competition. Let me know if this works for you.

If you have problems getting the file today, email me privately at phil.dollan@autodesk.com
