Jane

You can’t miss out on the Lone Star Regional because:

  1. https://my.usfirst.org/myarea/index.lasso?page=teamlist&event=TX
  2. Weather will more than likely be better than the other regionals that weekend
  3. Mexican food
  4. I’ll be there

kidding me?:yikes:

AHH!..what about the PM than?..all my dreams

(lol)

OOoooooOOOooOo someone is jealous :stuck_out_tongue:

So i’ve midterms for the forth week. I might be able to swing by Boston (saturday only) but thats not gurantee.
That only left me with Week 5. So far the funding has been approved for the first three trips and now i’m waiting for the last one.
Lone Star? never been to texas before…friendly people, awesome food!
West Michigan? POWER HOUSE!!!, never been to michigan before, know some people who can help/assist…

ehh…not sure about hte fifth week yet…

Imad

Wow, you really do have a 5th week quandry - W. Michigan or Texas?

My first instinct would be to say Texas. It is twice as far away from you as the Michigan event, so if you have carte blanche for travel, I’d say to go for the gusto! I was also thinking that the scenery in Texas was significantly different from VA and Michigan was more similar, but then I realized that you won’t have much time to check out the local sights - just robots, robots, robots!

So it comes down to the Hot Team or Hot Tamales…

I have one of those executive decision makers on my desk, otherwise known as an 8-ball. I asked it “should Imad go see the Hot Team?” The answer: WAY! Just to make sure, I asked the other question, “should Imad go to Texas?” And the Answer this time was a definitive NO WAY! :ahh:

So there you have it, the 8-ball has spoken.

Even though the 8-ball has decisively spoken, I’ll chip in a few more pointers for West Michigan.
Texas has 52 teams, 14 Regional Champions, One Championship event winner (Team 1, ironically from Michigan), and One Hall of Fame team (16) attending this year.
West Michigan has 55 teams, 20 Regional Champions, Five Championship event winners (67, 71, 111, 469, 494), and Three Hall of Fame teams (47, 67, 111).
The Midwest (Michigan in particular) has long been the source of a majority of the “perennial powerhouse” teams in FIRST, mainly because of the sponsorships of GM, Delphi, Chrysler, and Ford (I think 217 earned their mention  ), as well as the tremendous success of Beatty and Wildstang. There are very few places you can see so much of FIRST history at one time (WMR, GLR, IRI, and Championship are pretty much the only times). You absolutely cannot afford to not attend WMR.

Even though Smithsonian is not covering my Week4, i’ve decided to swing by Boston (Saturday Only). Although i’ll be documenting stuff (I need to know if your team is interested); I’ll also be volunteering (thanks dez).

Props to Daisy for convincing.
EDIT: LOL Daisy…my total number of posts!!

Week 5? rawr…back to planning table.

Oh, I didn’t see this when I had originally posted… this is another reason to come to Texas…

So heres the quick reply to end this dilemma

I’ve to work with the finance department to make sure my trips are not costing more than needed.
Because of that Week 5 is off the table.

Week 1 : VCU
Week 2 : Orland (James)
Week 3 : Chesapeak
Week 4 : Boston (Daisy)

Week 5 : As much as I would love too… I think i’ll be sick of Robots and walking around empty pocket…hahaha. Sorry but corporate thinks 4 regionals are enough.

Imad

EDIT: Boston is now covered by Smithsonian

You are not attending any Midwestern regional tsk tsk, missing the best ones.:stuck_out_tongue:

FIRST is not for the ‘best ones,’ its for everyone.

I wish I could, but sorry… as i’ve stated above.

Imad

Actually, it appears you’re staying exclusively on the East Coast. Not much diversity there…

Not that it matters, we know that all the regionals west of Boilermaker are just *aspiring *to be as good as the East Coast regionals!
