Cool old pics: 95-97 champs, 2001 KSC regional

In my infinite spare time during the offseason, I figured I’d fill in some gaps in my team’s old photos and ended up back at the 1995 Championships at Epcot '95, several years before my team was founded, as is oft to happen. Thanks, Wayback Machine.

1995 Nationals
(I tried cross referencing things as best I could and think “Pulp Friction” may be from what is now 144 based on location. I managed to identify 190’s bot as “Scorpion II” from their web page - they had the names of their bots listed, and 131’s “C.H.A.O.S.” was easy enough to get.)

1996 Nationals
(I believe the Nynex robot marked 3 is from what is now team 69.)

1997 Nationals
(Unless I am mistaken, second from last includes CD wearing 32 back when numbering was sponsor-based. They appear in the first picture as well.)

2001 NASA KSC Regional

I also dug up what appears to be a complete list of 2001 match results here, so hopefully those ends up on Blue Alliance at some point. I know about their Facebook page for submitting non-FMS data but I’m not much one for Facebook.

My apologies if these have been posted before, I did a bit of searching around but didn’t see anyone else having posted these. I found Granite State from 2004 on and Buckeye and Toronto in 2002 and 2003 as well, if anyone wants to look for themselves/their team let me know and I’ll dig the links out of my bookmarks.

And indeed it appears as soon as I hit submit thread the Wayback Machine goes down…

What a find! It would be really cool to get these results imported to TBA

I actually just realized I posted the link one cache too far back - Here is a link which includes the championship results, plus I also noticed 2001 competition pictures which I missed before.

I would edit the original post, but I haven’t posted enough to gain that ability…

Sorry for the double posting, I know it’s against the unspoken forum etiquette, but hey, I served my time as a lurker for what it’s worth.

I also found full 2002 championship data - I found the rest of the 2002 data as well but Blue Alliance has the regionals I looked at posted so I incorrectly assumed they had these as well. Looking now there’s data for Newton, but here’s the rest. This also reports a different setup for championships… Newton, Einstein, Curie, and Archimedes as divisions with the “Championship Event” listed separately. Wayback Machine throws a slow response error when loading them but if you give it a second they do load.

Could I see the Canadian Regional (Toronto) from 02 and 03? I too am interested in supplementing our old pictures. Thanks!

I’ve managed to find both more and less than I remembered, unfortunately. These are the 2002 and 2003 pages, both of which seem to be missing more than I remember them missing when I was looking at these last night. I may have bookmarked the wrong URLs, you can try getting different cached versions by clicking on the arrows in the Wayback Machine bar at the top.
To make up for it I dug up the homepage from 2006, which includes a painfully slow slideshow you may be able to pull something off of. This earlier version seems to have some other pictures. Sorry about that, I really remember the 2002/3 pictures pages having more than that. I tried the link to Delphi Elite at the bottom but that had even less of a usable cached page.

This is super cool, thank you! Looking at my old team (115) history is amazing. We had a Division Winner (or Finalist, I forget which) banner from 2001 hanging in the shop, one of the four banners it has earned in its history, and I always wondered exactly how we got it. It’s good to know that we got it completely through our own power, not needing to be carried by anybody. :stuck_out_tongue:

Ah, the days when the field had metal railings, didn’t yet have gates, and the 120lb robot still needed to be carried onto the field over the railing…memories!

I think that Scorpion II still lives at the Mass Academy. I’ll have to look for it next time I’m there!

Fantastic pieces of FIRST history, thank you for sharing!

This is really cool!

I noticed one of the photos from 1995 has Boeing/Lindbergh HS (from Renton, WA, “The Talon”). This is the first record I’ve seen of a team older than 360 and 488 in the region, who were both founded in 2000 according to FIRST’s data, which is suspect but seems close.

Also interesting is that Lindbergh HS now hosts team 3588 “The Talon”, founded in 2011. No idea they had history back to the very early days of FIRST.
