Coolest Robot Play of 2001

This string is for nominations of the coolest play from the whole spectrum of 2001 competition, including off season comps. On or about 11.27.2001, I’ll post the ten snazziest to a poll and everybody can vote on them. Let the nomination commence!

PS: Pictures really help for this…

I’de like to nominate a group of teams from last years IRI (Indiana Robotics Invitational)…it was 45, 111, 71, and i cant remember the other team…and we had an awesome match going then the power went out and we had to restart…

[Finished in Mike’s post below, Thanx Mike :)]

(by the way that match was not fixed)

The coolest play I saw this year was at River Rage, it was the match when team 151 flipped the goal to lay down on top of their bot and the alliance partners they were with placed the large balls across the goal so that more could fit on, granted it didn’t work exactly like the wanted it to, it was really cool to watch. If anyone wants to throw in the rest of the team #'s for this match that would be cool, I feel bad I only remeber that it was 151’s match…

I have just been informed:
The teams were 151,190, and 213 and that there is a picture of the play on Nashua’s website at team151.tripod.com

This year at Mayhem on the Merrimack, team 131 was matched up with team 140, (the others teams i don’t remember). The match was designed for team 140 to go over the bridge first with 131 CHAOS following them. As the bridge toggled for 140 they flipped over blocking the ramp for any use. 131 quickly decided to take matters into their own hands. They jumped off the side of the bridge, and physically pushed team 140 out of the way. Then latched a goal to balance all with a 1.5 multiplier I believe. It sure wasn’t the highest scoring round, but it showed great determination, and persistance.

does anyone remember this?

In the Galileo division, there was one match, which also ended up with the play of the day award, where the bridge went off it’s axis, and a team actually went flying off the high end of it trying to get to the end zone…i’d say that one still sticks in my mind…

Clark, how could you forget the Chief? It was 45, 47, 71, 111. We almost had an 800 point score, but the power went out, so we got to retry it, but couldn’t quite get it quick enough.

How about Team 535 (shameless plug  ) at the Nats in Disney?
In one of our qualification matches we decided to pull the stretcher w/disabled bot. We latched onto the stretcher and pulled it across the bridge (no lose of traction), picked up a 10 point ball, did a 180 to drop off the stretcher (in the endzone) and then deposited the ball on top of the goal. All in one fluid move. It didn’t do us much go though. Two of our “alliance” robots fell over.

Here is a pic of that match that mike an i were talking about earlier in the thread about the 892 match…

Clark,

You forgot that during that match, right before the power went out…

The bridge failed to balance as Beatty-Hammond was heading toward the end zone. So, it wouldn’t have been a high score… but it was darn close.

ps… woooohoooo… “Senior Member”!!

I remember match 16 like it was yesterday…i was standing in the other (empty) allience station on the other side of the field…I think that might have broken 720…but we will never know…

also did we ever get an explanation on why the power went out?

Not a senior member yet…
