I have an odd problem…I’ve been trying to make a backup copy of the game Age of Empires II…but have been unsucessfull. Reading in the license…it should work and be prefectly legal, but it hasn’t been working for me. I’ve been directly copying the CD from one drive to another using Nero…but when I try to use to run the game…it tells me that it can’t find the disk. Does anyone know what I’m doing wrong/if theres something I need to do different to make it work. I’m stuck on this problem right now. Thanks for your help.
dont use nero… 9/10 it doesnt work… try Achool 120% or Clone Cd… Achohol is mostly used for games… it can burn games, and read them, you can also create images to your hard drive, and run it off the hard drive and never use the CD again… Clone Cd does music Cd’s data cd’s, and game cd’s… also if you are using images you might also want to D/L Dameon tools…

Be careful though some games will run horribly or just not run if they detect that you are running cd clone tools on them.
that is true… but then go to GameCopy World and d/l a simple No-Cd patch… so you dont need the CD (you can also do this instead of copying the CD)
Be careful guys. I understand the original intention of this thread, but please watch what you say because as in the forum rules, and for legal and ethical standards, copying a CD is illegal if used not used for the ‘backup copy’ reason.
This is not a threat, just a warning.
Thanks for the advice…do you know how well roxio works for copying cd’s like that??
roxio dosnet always do a good job. due to the fact that it dosent have changeable options for the type of cd. that program just thinks of all the cds are the same
Alchol 120% is a much better program. if you can find out which copy protection the cd has you can use that program to make an image so it will bypass the copy protection. you can just use teh 21 day trial
AS Kelly said, there are rules regarding conversations involving illegal acts. Please read and follow our simple rules listed on Chief Delphi forums.
Copying software most of the time is illegal. The only real exception is if you have a licence for making copies (many teachers buy programs that are site licensed and are granted permission to make a set amount of copies or install on a set number of computers).
There is a old practice that was suggested many years ago that if you purchased a software program you can make a copy for your archives. This old practice was in the old days when all media was 5.25 and 3.5 floppy format that could get damaged very easy. Today with CD and DVD technology being very stable, the archive practice is illegal. Read the licence that came with your software.
We are requesting that conversations regarding methods of making cd,s be for your personal data or programs that you personally have created.
Let’s keep it legal guys.
I’m doing this right now because I’m worrying about the CD I’m using. A friend gave me the game for free…but the disk has been scratched beyond belief. It works fine when I use it…but I want to make a back-up in case. I’ve read the software license…and it is legal.
p.s. I’m going to ask for this thread to get closed…I didn’t realize people would have such a problem with it…but I appreciate your views
But you have to keep in mind that the game was made back in the early-to-late 90’s. The times when CD’s were very unstable really, since they were just recently released to the mass public.
Now that CD’s are very stable, like Mike Martus said, it’s illegal even to make “backup” copies.
To solve this whole thing, just go buy it at any Circuit City store or wherever else. I got the expansion set (AoE 2 & The Conquerors Expansion) for $20. That’s not bad at all, and it was new.
For all the law-people like me, the expos-facto (sp?) loophole won’t work either, since you are doing this now, and not back in the 90’s (I’m stating this for the chance you get introuble for doing this by the government. Don’t ask me how or anything, just thinking of this possibility).
** Edit: Why not support the makers & publishers of the game anyway? I mean, it took a lot of their time to make this game, so why not give them something in return **
