Hi all,
In this video we demonstrate CowScout’s electronic data entry and approval system. CowScout automatically assigns teams for users to scout. Scouting data is then presented to a lead scout, who checks it for errors and approves, edits, or deletes it.
For example, six users with iPads go to the data entry page and are assigned teams. When a user submits new data, they are assigned a new team to scout and the data is sent to the lead scout. The lead scout approves the data and it is added to the team’s collection of statistics.
This software looks great and I can see it being very useful. I have spent some time looking into developing something similar but some key questions come up right away.
How do you handle communication between Ipads and the database?
Yes we cant get wifi at one of our events so we arent going to be using cowscout. If we could have it to run on our own server we would use it.
But oh well:)
Some sort of internet access is required to use CowScout. We plan on running a 2.4ghz wifi network (off of a 4G LTE modem), which won’t interfere with the field’s 5ghz network.
I’ve used Docs for a few years now. You need internet access to use Docs just as you need internet for CowScout. You can also do more with your information in Docs.
What are going to be the fields for scouting data this year?
I’m considering using CowScout. I like the features it has, but I need to make sure it has space for all the things we care about in each game.
EDIT: Is there a freeform text field for additional comments? We use a lot of qualitative properties when picking teams and constructing match strategies. Often there’s something that just doesn’t fit into the numerical fields.
For example there were some teams that didn’t drive straight enough in autonomous and so they’d crash into us. We’d have to plan it so we didn’t interfere with each other, and we’d know if that was an issue by looking at the comments on the scout sheets. It’s not enough just to know whether their auton scores or not, but how it scores.
Also I’m assuming that we can’t see data entered by other teams and vice versa. Is that correct?
