So this year we switched to CTRE’s mag encoders, which we were excited to do. We finally put them on and set them up, I zero them and then put them on the dashboard so we can monitor it. The problem is, even if we only move 5 cm the encoder values jump up to 1500, and I cannot seem to figure out why. Does anybody else have this problem or know of a way to fix it? Thank you!
How big are your wheels, and is the encoder directly 1-to-1 with the wheel? If it isn’t 1-to-1, what’s the gear ratio between one rotation of the encoder to one rotation of the wheel?
What are you expecting the encoder value to jump up to?
If it is consistent, and it’s just giving you more ticks per revolution than you expect - is this actually a problem? You can just divide it to translate ticks into linear distance, or multiply your linear distance target to translate it into ticks.
The problem is each encoder value is different, usually by about 3,000. I think both are linear tho so I could find the rate of change for each side, I’m just wondering why it’s so large.
The wheels are 8 in, and I think they aren’t 1-1 with the wheel, but I’ll have to double check.
