[CTRE] Product Quality Notice - Battery Cable

Out of an abundance of caution we’re issuing a notice about a potential issue with some of our Battery Cables. If you’ve purchased them from us within the past year-ish, please take a read.

While the likelihood of failure is small we wanted to ensure visibility because of the type of failure mode.

Would this apply to the cables sold by Andymark as well?

Thank you so much for doing this. This is the best way to handle a quality concern.

100% this! No supplier is perfect, mistakes happen - it’s way more important how suppliers react to these mistakes. I greatly appreciate a public announcements of quality defects so teams can take preventative action instead of finding it on the field. I also appreciate this is on the home page of your website.

Is there a minimum suggested pull force to test the terminals?

My team had this issue a few weeks back with this cable and we were worried that we may have strained the battery cable too much or that our previous electrical lead manually made and crimped it but did a bad job. Thanks for posting this, it’s been on my mind for a while!

Basically a recall for an item which is not a safety concern [that is, lives are not in danger, property is not in danger, though customer satisfaction is definitely in danger]. Definitely this is one of those moments that keeps me volunteering for FIRST events after my own kids have entered the workforce.
(And yes, all three alumni are still involved at various levels, and that’s another reason. I get almost as much face to face time with @ExploitSage at FRC events as at holidays each year.)
