We recently purchased an AMT102-V Encoder from Digikey, and we have no clue how to wire it.
We found a cable on Digikey that is made for it, but we aren’t sure how to attach that to the Roborio. (or if we even can)
Did we waste our money or is there a way to do this?

For confirmation, the encoder has a 5-pin male output.
You can do it, the details depend on what you’re connection to and your capabilities of making more PWM cables. I’m going to assume you can’t make cables and you’re connecting to a roboRIO. In that case, you’ll just take two pre-made PWM cables, cut off the male ends, and splice the free wires to that pre-made CUI cable. Unfortunately, digikey’s picture doesn’t match the drawing in the datasheet, so I can’t tell you exactly how to wire it, since there’s a 50-50 chance I’ll get it wrong and fry your encoder. Could you plug the cable into the encoder and post a picture of that? The clip on the cable should be on the metal side of the encoder.
If you’re okay with approximate instructions, here’s what the wiring should be:
PWM cable 1:
Black to Encoder G
Red to Encoder 5V
White to Encoder A
PWM cable 2:
White to Encoder B
Clip Black and Red wires just above female connector.
Finally a word of warning. The metal shell on those encoders is connected to the Ground pin. Make CERTAIN the metal shell doesn’t touch any metal parts on your robot, or you’ll end up with a frame that’s grounded. That means you won’t pass inspection and you’ll also risk frying the encoder and some portion of your roboRIO.
