During the build time we heard many differning views on what would be important and what wouldn’t. A general consensus was that hitting the wall first was the most important thing. The main debate was stacker vs KoTH. After 4 weeks of regionals the majority of teams have played at least once, so all the cards are the table so to speak. What do you view as “the winning strategy” at this point? What are the key parts of the match? What teams exemplify these points the best?
With plenty of time during the match to take out opposing stacks it seems like a waste to auto-hunt stacks. Few bots try to ram opposing bots and even then its almost useless because the fast ones can outrun there chasers. The only autonomous mode I see is to take out the wall. After that one bot(usually an armed one) should go kill the opposing alliances stacks and the other bot should protect there human player stack. With a few seconds left teams make a dash for the hill. There are few solo task KoTH bots out there to guage how they would effect overall play.
Key points. The team who first hits the wall has at least an 80% chance of winning. Controlling the hill seems to be almost forgotten. With 7 bots on average moving over the hill during a match and half the matches ending within 25 points, controlling the hill seems to be a key yet forgotten task.
980s arm is an alternative to moving during autonomous, beatty has something similar
229 one of the few KoTH bots, this pic is all the arguement for this kind of bot
1018 has a unique yet familiar(2001) bot
Good luck to everyone in the following weeks, if you feel the need to self promote your bot at least mention another team as well.
