What is the nominal size of the foam in cross section?

This is totally reading too far into the rules… but the right-most cross section in the manual is flying close to the sun…

As an aside, these bumpers look crisp. You all really nailed the clean bumper aesthetic.

Thank you for the kind words! We strived to make these bumpers look as professional as possible.

To answer your question:
The foam is 5" height and 3.125" width. The bracket and foam are the same height; it appears to be smaller because of the compression.

In the photo, the “NOT OK” refers to when the padding is larger than the backing which is not the case for SWYFT bumpers.

Perfect. Thanks for the response. Nominal foam dimension and the outside dimension of the backing match, therefore they fall into the leftmost example in the manual. :+1:

Are these bumpers legal in FRC considering their $1000 price is well over the $600 limit?

That $1000 price gets you two sets of bumpers, red and blue. So each bumper set is $500 and therefore under the $600 individual component limit.

You can also buy an individual corner for $200 which you could argue breaks up one bumper into 4 parts that each individually cost less than $200.

This is similar to buying a swerve drivetrain, the price of all 4 modules is well above the $600 limit but since you can buy the modules individually for less than $600 each, it meets the letter of R301

It looks like the $1000 (OUCH!) price gets you four separate corner-units, which would make the individual pieces a perfectly legal $250 each. Sort of like buying a package of four swerve drive modules.

EDIT: …and rstockton beat me by seconds

The bundle is two complete kits, 8 corner segments, 4 red, 4 blue. (Along with mounting hardware)

@rstockton429 is absolutely correct, thank you!

Great looking product, guys! Are your mounting screws 10-32 and if so should I be confident that the robustness of the connection to the frame will be at least almost as good as the usual 1/4-20 connectors we normally use?

That’s a great question about the mounting screws!
Here’s the breakdown:

  • Bolts connecting the mounting blocks to the bumper: These are indeed 1/4"-20.
  • Bolts connecting the mounting blocks to the robot: These use 10-32 hardware. While smaller than 1/4"-20, we haven’t seen any issues with damage or failure. If you prefer to use 1/4"-20 hardware for this connection, you absolutely can! The mounting blocks are designed to accommodate both sizes. We choose to include 10-32 hardware in the kit because it allows teams to use their 2" x 1" tubes without drilling out the hole.

$1000 for these is a bargain.
