Cylinder Length Calculator

I made this calculator in the '22 season on 3538 and we used it on 8096 last year. Just stumbled upon it again and figured I should share it here.

This is for use with round body double acting air cylinders. I find it very useful to avoid looking up lengths of rod ends and widths of jam nuts every time I’m designing a linkage. I also find it ensures young designers remember to leave space for jam nuts.

Spreadsheet is read only (since I actively use this one), so you’ll need to make a copy to use it.

Let me know if there’s new features you want to see or you find mistakes.

If you don’t understand the A and B lengths and diagram shown, check out Adam Heard’s video on the subject

Pneumatics are soooo 2020. The age of the 20 port PDH is upon us!

Nice resource, thanks for sharing! I’d love if this calculator could also do cylinder weight so you could compare Bore diameter vs stroke length to find optimal power to weight option.

Bookmarked, thanks for the resource

Done, except 5/8" because Bimba doesn’t have a 5/8" cylinder so I don’t have a model or a reference. Not sure what brand is sold by McMaster for this.

If someone could weigh a cylinder that’d be helpful to validate the sheet.
