** Dallas dates **
Good Evening Teams,
It’s official. The Dallas Regional has moved from Week Four to Week Six and is being planned as a double event. For right now we’re calling the two events Dallas East and Dallas West, but that might change in the near future. The date will not change again.
102 days to Kickoff
See you then!
We could sure use some help/support from our veteran out-of-Texas friends/neighbors/and fellow teams, looks like.
Boy howdy - double event - Dallas East and Dallas West. What does that mean? Double regional?
I thought the additional regional in Texas was enough on one Texas-sized plate this year. Reckon I was mighty wrong.
Jane
On a positive note, Texas Regionals are no longer back to back.
Week One - Alamo FRC & FTC Championship
Week Two
Week Three - Original Texas Friendly event - Lone Star
Week Four
Week Five
Week Six - Dallas split event East & West
But as Jane stated, this is going to require a huge amount of Veteran FIRST Tournament Volunteer support. So on behalf of all the above FRC Texas events and a dozen FTC qualifiers plus three FTC Championship events, we need the assistance of any FIRST volunteer looking for some of the best weather in March and some of the friendliest FIRST events around to help make this a huge success.
Contacts are:
Alamo RD - Patrick Felty
Alamo ast. RD - Jess J.
Alamo FTC AP - Myself
Alamo FIRST Senior Mentor - Mike Henry
Lone Star RD - Lucia Sevcik
Dallas RD - John Shellene
Southwest FTC AP - Carter Tiernan
All around good egg and FIRSTer - Jane Young
Well that’s cool, Andrew. I’ve begun receiving e-mails with offers of help, volunteer-wise. Good offers. I’ll get them to the right places.
On a side note, I haven’t been called ‘a good egg’ for many many years and it was by my dad. Thank you, I am all smiles.
Jane
Is John S. running both events in Dallas, or will there be someone else?
I do not believe that FIRST has or will hire a fourth Regional Director in Texas or have two in one city for that matter. I beleive the model for all of these double/split events is that they are really one big event with something akin to two divisions with two sets of teams qualifying for the World Championship event. It would be similar to if the Lone Star became a double event and had a field, pits, judging rooms in one hall of the George R. Brown and duplicate set in a second hall of the convention center. We’d have to give Lucia a set of roller skates and an iPHone 4 with facetime communication for all key volunteers:ahh:
So it will be John S. and the entire Dallas FRC planning committee that runs and organizes those two events in Dallas. I am somewhat in the know but I am not part of the day to day so I can’t tell you what the venue location will be or how this will play out at this time.
